NOVEMBER AT THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF IRELAND
Come and experience the art and culture of Poland in
November, with talks and music to complement our Polish
Exhibition. On Saturday 1st December, our study morning
'Conversations about Modern Polish Art and Culture' will
feature various experts in the areas of visual art and
cultural history.

ONGOING EXHIBITIONS :
PAINTINGS FROM POLAND SYMBOLISM TO MODERN ART (1880-1939)
An exhibition of over 70 paintings from the National
Museum, Warsaw, the National Museum in Cracow, the Tatra
Museum in Zakopane and from private collections. The
exhibition focuses on the Symbolist period of the late
nineteenth century, through to the modernism and
abstraction of the inter-war years. Set against the
background of Poland?s turbulent history, much of the
imagery articulates a desire for independence, or
expresses a desire to embrace an international vision of
art.
A full colour catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
A free audio tour, narrated by Fiona Shaw, is available
from the exhibition desk.

MASQUERADE AND SPECTACLE. THE CIRCUS AND TRAVELLING FAIR
IN THE WORK OF JACK B YEATS
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the artist?s death,
this exhibition of some 20 paintings, focuses on a
subject that was crucial to Yeats? artistic development.
The display includes a number of items from the Yeats
Archive and paintings that have rarely been seen in
public before.

CATCHING A LIKENESS: PORTRAITS ON PAPER
This exhibition shows how portraits from the fifteenth to
the twentieth centuries have varied in accordance with
prevailing artistic fashions, favoured styles, techniques
and media. The exhibition includes works by Antonio
Pollaiuolo, Henry Fuseli, Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres,
Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and Paul Klee as well as
portraits by Irish artists; Adam Buck, Muriel Brandt,
Patrick Hennessy, Michael Kane, Sean Keating and Brian

Music Events
In association with our current exhibition on Polish art,
piano virtuoso Jonathan Plowright will give a concert of
works by Polish Romantic composers, Chopin, Paderewski
and Stojowski to coincide with Polish Independence day.

The National Chamber Choir continue their current series
this month with several Thursday evening concerts in the
Shaw Room.

POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE 2
EXHIBITION LAUNCH AND AUCTION
FRIDAY 16TH NOVEMBER AT 6PM
at no. 72 John Street Kilkenny, Ireland
I am delighted to say that we have received in excess of 7,500 magnificent postcards for POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE 2 exhibition. These art works have arrived here from all over Kilkenny City and County but also from as far a field as England, Scotland, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Malaysia, Germany and Australia. Children as young as two and three have created work as have a number of professional artists, photographers craftspeople etc. As you will see when you peruse the exhibition the variety and originality of the work is outstanding.
The launch will include the auction of approximately
36 postcards - auctioneer the inimitable George Chandler.
All the other cards on show will be for sale at a minimum of E3 each
