Greece, and its history of Philosophy and Lawmaking which is largely behind the creation of "DEMOCRACY", was a collection of exceptionally savage and war-like small nations. Democratic laws did not prevent any of their aggressive enterprises evidently.Everywhere the individual nation's constitutions inclined towards the despotism of the principal citizens over the population.
Thales and Solon were born in 640 and 638 BC and were the firstborn of seven Greek wise men and the latter, Solon, was the first who rationalised social organisation for the benefit of citizens. He travelled throughout Greece after his studies and was then elected sovereign legislator. Discension among the people was great at the time. He created laws that were accepted and he exacted from the Greeks a promise to keep them for 100 years. He then resigned from legislation to travel. Returning in ten years he found few had followed the laws he created, disillusioned he went away to Cyprus for the rest of his life. However his laws were retained for 400 years and now are the respected architecture of many Civil Laws . Someone observed"They contain precepts for the regulation of human life and observations on the power of chance and providence."

In Solon's discussions on law and lawcases he warned that though one should be slow and careful to take law cases against individual citizens, one should ensure, on the contrary, that any case against a law officer should be taken up immediately the case is disclosed.

A friend sent me this discussion on Democracy:

TOTALITARIAN "DEMOCRACY"  is the flavor of the day. Anything "voted on" will be issues chosen by  "THEY" ; not  issues raised by the people.
Those "issues" will be media driven and selected as well as the "choice" preferred.

Democracy is NOT a majority ruling anyone or anything. Democracy is the People ruling whomever or whatever they are asked to rule upon.
> To do that, there must be the unanimous judgment of the People...which can only occur when there is Trial by Jury to judge a particular action brought before them. There is no other way for People to be able to rule, ie: to exercise their Sovereignty. Trial by Jury is "of the People, by the People and for the People".  Trial by Jury is Democracy.
Yours sincerely,JW
=========================

A democracy is rule of the majority.  A jury at least in USA has to be unanamous to convict. That is hardly a democracy.

A democracy is two wolves and sheep deciding on what's for dinner.

Dear S
What a load of rubbish. "Democracy, however, is a transition stage from liberty to Communism in which some make the rules of society by controlling the currency and credit and  virtually all media of communication, thereby keeping public criticism  within bounds acceptable to censors,
and they censor everything."
Let's put it to a Jury.

       "Keep on voting!"
I say no. No more voting. No more Elephant and Donkey puppet shows. See where voting has got us? Voting has got us into the slaughterhouse. Next  stop: the poorhouse. Voting is for cowards. Voting is weak people hiring strong people to boss them around and steal their money and make all their decisions for them.
Voting is for cowardly fools who will not take responsibility for their own lives. And that's ignoring the subject of vote fraud and our rigged elections. Even if the vote was honest, and it's not, it's still a cowardly  practice.
How do we regain our honor and dignity now that we know that we are led by sadistic war criminals who have ordered the torture, rape and murder of  thousands upon thousands of harmless and friendly people? War criminals whose only hope to escape the hangman is more corruption by lawmakers and police and prosecutors and judges, most of whom are corrupt Freemasons?
Voting is the trademark of Democracy, right?

  WEBSTER's 1828 Dictionary definitions:
DEMOCRACY: Government by the people; a form of government, in which the supreme powers is lodged in the hands of the people collectively, or in which the people exercise the power of legislation. Such was the goverment of Athens.
REPUBLIC:
1. A commonwealth; a state in which the exercise of the sovereign power is lodged in representatives elected by the people. In modern usage, it differs from a democarcy or democratic state, in which the people exercise the powers of sovereignty in person. Yet the democracies of Greece are often called REPUBLICS.
2. Common interest; the public. Republic of letters, the collective body of learned men.
An actual democracy has only one law: The majority will rule.
A Republic has a body of laws; which protect the rights of minorities, and of individuals. All laws are applied equally to everyone regardless of his class. The government must obey the same laws.
Hallmarks of Democracy
"Mobocracy": rule according to the whims of majority public opinion.
"Judicial Legislation": rulings from the bench in conformity with "social policy".
"Democracy is a form of government that cannot long survive, for as soon as the people learn that they have a voice in the fiscal policies of the government, they will move to vote for themselves all the money in the treasury, and bankrupt the nation." - Karl Marx, author of the Communist Manifesto.
Hallmarks of a Constitutional Republic
All laws are written laws. The lawful actions of government can arise from written authority only.
The laws must be written so that any Citizen of average intelligence can understand it, otherwise it must be held "void for vagueness".
"I pledge allegiance to the flag, and to the Republic for which it stands..." United States pledge of Allegiance."
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government...." - Article 4 Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution.

Temporary Democracy
Joseph Olson

About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in the year 1787, Alexander Tyler (a Scottish history professor at The University of Edinburgh) had this to say about "The Fall of The Athenian Republic" some 2,000 years prior.

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.  A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.  From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years.  During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to complacency; From complacency to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage."

I dug out my 1856 Bouvier's Law dictionary  here is what it says:

DEMOCRACY, government. That form of government in which the sovereign power is exercised by the people in a body, as was the practice in some of the states of Ancient Greece; the term representative democracy has been given to a republican government like that of the United States.

However it should be noted this definition was assigned almost 70 years AFTER the Constitution was written. My own observation is that the word "Democracy" was used very little prior to WW II.  It seems to have been heavily promoted after the systematic infiltration by COMMUNISTS into the American educational system during the 1930s and 1940s.  See Dr. Bella
Dodd.
==============================
The word "Democracy" cannot be found in the Declaration of Independence, or the Constitution, or in the Pledge of Allegience to the flag, or the Constitutions of any of the States.
It was not left out by accident. Our founding fathers wrote long essays of the concept, and left no doubt that it was not error that they would not be foolish enough to make.

Are We a Democracy or a Republic?

1. From the 1928 US Army Manual, used for all men in army uniform, it gave the definition of democracy: "A government of the masses. Authority derived through mass meeting of any, for direct expression. Results in mobocracy.
Attitude toward property is communistic--negating property rights.
Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it be based upon delibaration or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences. Results in demogogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy."

2. From James Madison, one of the members of the Convention charged with writing our Constitution, he wrote the following: "...democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; and
have in general been as short in their lives as they have been in violent in their deaths." The word democracy does noes not appear in the constitution of a single one of our fifty states.

3. John Marshall, who was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1801 to 1835 said: "Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos."

4. Alexander Hamilton, in a speech made on June 21, 1778, stated: "It had been observed that a pure democracy if it were practicable would be the most perfect government. Experience has proved that no position is more false than this. The ancient democracies in which the people themselves deliberated never possessed one good feature of government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity."

5. Ralph Waldo Emerson stated: "Democracy becomes a government of bullies tempered by editors."

6. George Washington is his first inaugural address, dedicated himself to "The preservation...of the republic model of government."

7. When asked about the form of government produced by the Constitutional Convention, Thomas Jefferson answered, "A Republic, if you can keep it."

8. The Pledge of Allegiance says, "...and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands..."

9. 'Democracy' is "The demand by the stupid to rule the intelligent because the stupid outnumber the intelligent."  --  SFC Steven Barry, USA (retired)

10. John Adams said; "Democracy will soon degenerate into an anarchy; ... and no man's life or property or reputation or liberty will be secure, and every one of these will soon mould itself into a system of subordination of all the moral virtues and intellectual abilities, all the powers of wealth, beauty, wit, and science, to the wanton pleasures, the capricious will, and the execrable ... cruelty of one or a very few."

..  here in America, the question should be: In 1789 what was the definition of the word "DEMOCRACY"?
============================
I have at my disposal, a copy of Bouvier's 1856 Law Dictionary the 6th Edition.

The English language is constantly and often DELIBERATELY changing. No where in the American Declaration Of Independence or the Nations Constitution can the word "DEMOCRACY' be found.  Going one step further, I seriously doubt you can find the word "DEMOCRACY" in any of the individual 50 States Constitutions.  The word "DEMOCRACY" has largely a word introduced into our post WW II language.   Largely being introduced via the National Teachers associations and a course called "POD" Problems of Democracy.  This was unknown prior to WW II. I would add that there is much documentation to suggest, the NEA had been heavily infiltrated by the US Communist party.  A google search of Bella Dodd, will provide a better insight.

Here in this nation the first act aborting our Constitutional Republic, came with the 17th Amendment.  The result was U.S. Senators no longer being elected by the state legislatures but rather by popular election. This effectively destroyed "state's rights"  transforming the nation into it's present "MOB RULE".  The result has been a "fractionated" population, in which each special interest group has been given some special "government privilege" elevating that group above the masses and beholding to government for it's special status.

. but the meanings can only be taken from and to their source of the component parts, ie: Greek.
====================================

As I understand it ( I do not speak Greek)  "DEMOS" is the Greek word for "the masses".
Here in the states, our forefathers were well read in both Roman and Greek history.  As such, I believe, they endeavored to take the BEST of both political systems to create a "Constitutional Republic".  It is often spoken of as 3 different, but equal branches government.   However one of the cornerstones was the Treaty of Paris (1783) in which King George vested his "SOVEREIGNTY" (the concept of rule by divine right" in the peoples of the Colonies.  This is a precedence "in LAW".  It created a 4th branch in the people who, collectively could overrule the other 3 branches.

This is all now "theory" as we have seen (here in the states) a federal oligarchy of "TOTALITARIAN DEMOCRACY" evolve.   You have your choice  but your choice is limited We will decide what you can  choose between.

This current "TOTALITARIAN DEMOCRACY" is a result of the merging, of the
now declared dead, COMMUNISM and industrial CAPITALISM.
======================= ========
I appreciate the discussion, and I hope you find this contribution constructive and beneficial.

All governments throughout all time have been labeled by the placement and exercise of the Legislative Power, also known as the Sovereign Power, the Supreme Power and the Law-making Power.

Thus, a "monarchy" is that governmental form where the Legislative Power is placed in the hands of one person who exercises that power.

An "oligarchy" is that governmental form where the Legislative Power is placed in the hands of a few people who (by their majority vote) exercise that power.

A "republic" is that form of government where the Legislative Power is placed, by act of Law, into the hands of representatives of the people, which representatives, by the designed procedure, and majority vote, exercise that (limited grant of) Legislative Power.

And, a "democracy" is today what it has always been from time immemorial, as is the case with any label for a form of government.  In that form of government known as a "democracy," the Legislative Power is placed in the hands of those members of that body politic who exercise the Privilege of Suffrage, and that Legislative Power is exercised by the majority vote (of the duly recognized quorum) of that group of people.

Nothing about the definition of "democracy" has or can change, and those who write the dictionaries who suggest otherwise are trying to play with our minds.

Thus, where the "popular" discussion about "democracy" focuses almost exclusively on "majority vote," that's a deliberate distraction from the essence of any form of government, which is the placement and exercise of the Legislative Power.

And, what we learn from the facts and events documented in the Declaration of Independence is that the form of government that first existed, and exists to this very instant, in this land, is that of a
"democracy," where the Legislative Power, which cannot be Annihilated, vested in the "People at large."

To take the next step and apply this definition, the "People at large" have never activated that Legislative Power.

Interesting post,  B.
I have heard you express your dislike of the Constitution before, but never quite understood your objections.

I must agree, most of the population (myself included) are ignorant of American political history, as it existed under the articles of Confederation.  I further admit a copy of  "THE ANTI FEDERALIST PAPERS" sits on my bookshelf, but I have never been very stimulated to read and
find the arguments it put forth.

The problems is, as I see it, we are unable to even restore our government to pre 16th amendment standards, much less go back and re institute the Articles of Confederation.

As I see it, the objective of the NewWorldOrder is to return all to the status of government controlled surfs and slaves with an illusion of freedom.  This is being achieved, largely, by economic controls via DEBT controlled "wage slaves". Whereas some type of physical "revolution" of "the people"  ranks in the fantasy of "the tooth fairy",  the only recourse, I see from this enslavement, if "FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE".  When one couples "financial independence" with mobility, we become much like our "illegal alien" invaders ... a uncontrollable "herd".  I think they call that a STAMPEDE in your neck of the woods.

On Fri, 25 Aug 2006 12:20:55 -0600 "Bob Taft" writes: Dave, democracy has always meant mob rule, but a mob always exists because someone else is ruling it.  Mobs are incapable of thinking; they only agree or disagree.  They are easily swayed by the PR of their handlers.  A hundred years ago it took control of 25% of the country's largest dailies to do the job.  Today it takes but four TV networks.  There may be many definitions of democracy, all merely someone's opinion, based upon someone else's opinion, based upon someone else's...  The much quoted Harry Atwood gave his opinion, and that's all it was.  He had no comprehension of the difference.

A democracy is a government based upon an elected hierarchy.  All personal sovereignty is surrendered at the ballot box.  Once cut loose, the hierarchy eventually takes the bit in its mouth and the people are left in the dust.

A Republic is a system based upon appointed leadership, given limited amounts of collective sovereignty, for limited goals and purposes.

We've never had a republican FORM of government.  The 1787 Con-Con made sure we'd never have one.
http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?read=20039
The US Constitution was a repudiation of the 1776 Declaration of Independence and of the entire Revolutionary War effort.  Our government brainwashing schools jump from 1776 to 1787 as if nothing of significance happened in between.  The same tired excuses for scuttling the Articles of Confederation that were used in 1787 are used today.  Only one's independent study, avoiding the opinions of the ruling elite and their financially-tenured academics can bring one to a real understanding of the vast but simple difference between a republic and a democracy.  The lazy mob will ever defer to the opinions of their handlers, which is why democracy is so popular to both the ruled and the rulers.

The 1787 Con-Con can only be understood by reading the opinions voiced by our Founding Scoundrels.
http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?read=74897
These must be sought for in the privately published notes of the delegates themselves.  The real motives of those promoting the Constitution were so far from being altruistic that the delegates agreed to refrain from publishing for a period of something like fifty years, until all might have passed beyond any chance of wrathful condemnation by the betrayed public.  Well it sure worked, and the public has yet to wake up and see the extent of the betrayal back in 1787.

There was a superior form of government hinted at in Exodus 18:21 long before the invention of democracy.  Under both the time of Judges, and of Kings ancient Israel thrived until democracy set in.  This form of government was carried across Europe by the Celts and still existed in Saxon Britain until displaced by the Roman rule of the Normans.  This same Roman rule was imposed upon the American people by the 1787 US Constitution.  If you will but read the two links shown above, and do so slowly with the intention of learning something you might not already know, you will open your eyes to an understanding of the betrayal of the 1787 Con-Con.  On the other hand if you read quickly with the intention of finding material that will strengthen already held opinions, you'll have just wasted your time.  These two articles by no means represent the last word on the subject but will give you much to ponder and hints for your own digging.  The ruling elite have had over two hundred years to bury the truths of history in the lies of their own making.  Today how many Americans know the name of the first President of the US?  George Washington?  No, he was the 11th!

Just out of curiosity....
1.  Suppose that we decided to convert the U.S. into a "direct democracy".

2.  Suppose further that as a result of polling, it was determined that a majority of Americans were prepared to vote for:

(a)  repealing the income tax amendment
(b)  ending U.S. involvement in the United Nations
(c)  massive reductions in government spending and elimination of several Cabinet departments
(d)  repealing Roe v Wade
(e)  enacting a 10-year moratorium on all immigration
(f)  eliminating all CFR influence within the U.S. Government

3. However, suppose that NONE of these policies could be accomplished by keeping a pure "republic" form of government.

WOULD YOU STILL PREFER THE REPUBLIC -- instead of DEMOCRACY?

Satelite revelation of Desert Growth in Mediterranean and Asia

Thus below, we see from a satelite, how the beautiful world of Europe Africa and Asia, (which used to have a huge river and forests in North Africa), is now suffering from centuries of democratic desertification by either religion, rule, tyranny, and colonisation, or mere tribal and warlike landgrabbing:
Recent discoveries in Palestine on water irrigation that have been going on for some time have been removed from Google. Is it because those discoveries established that the facilities were built by the Persians and not as claimed by the nomad tribes of Israelis?

Next He will be invited as a guest speaker at a Peace rally in London by the Mayor or Galloway!

The fact that by His actions Hisbolla carried out a war, death and distruction is nothing to talk about! and can all be easly be blaimed on Israel who have not said " sorry " for defending them selves!
