..TOTALITARIAN
POLITICS
have you dumbed down enough to qualify as a citizen?"Whatever the content of
the speech, (article, text..), the reality is that very
few people will read the entire text. So people will make
their minds up on the spin that is put on it, either by
the media or the spin from.....(the politicians)
themselves."Gerry

"A programme by
John Pilger...I have watched it three times. It is
accurate in every historical detail...But Carlton's (TV)

Israel so far as accuracy is concerned."Robert

These are comments on two areas
of crucial political activityat the moment, Northern
Ireland and Palestine.
If people do not have a through-line, of their own
personal interest, in these appalling social tragedies,
and the psychological destructiveness occurring with
horrifying daily effect in both places, does this imply a
pattern of ignorance that is politically maintained as a
form of tyranny and totalitarianism..?
An apathetic public response to a Peace March occured in
Dublin, when thousands were out in many major cities in
Europe. Also the sparsity of audiences attending an
excellent week's seminar of debates, documentary films
and exhibitions given recently by the Irish Palestine
Solidarity Campaign, confirms that the Dublin populace
regard any form of protest as a matter to be avoided, or
even ridiculed - and certainly written down to activity
by the "loony left" (a situation abetted by
EamonnMcCann's Socialist Worker's Party, who station
their members on either side of the entire length of any
march waving their political banners, and shouting their
slogans).
In Washington, where people are presently experiencing
the shadow cast from the complacent reflection they have
allowed to develop in their regard to these political
problems - will the public who must now experience the
fear of gunmen, realise that each and every innocent
Palestinian family has experienced the loss of children
and relatives of every age-group to a sniper's bullets,
as well as to openly illegal military aggression under
the occupation by Israel?
David McKittrick, long time commentator from Belfast,
toward the end of October freely admitted that "A
united Ireland is certainly not the goal of Mr. Blair,
while for Mr. Adams it certainly is." Gerry Adams
reminds: "It is at times like these I think of the
old adage of the optimism of the will asserting itself
over the pessimism of the intellectual." The
reflections cast by these two remarks illustrate the dead
end of those who reject change and separate in to the two
castes apparent in all political discourse now - the
politician versus the terrorist.

Pulled from his seat, thrown on the ground, arrested.
Public and media-spin arrest."The drivers of
all white vans - the type of vehicle the sniper is
believed to use - are being detained for questioning."Is
this the treatment that police in North Ireland are now
being taught by the US Police Education Contract entered
into by Tony Blair?(We no longer have to talk about the
British GOVERNMENT now that we understand completely WHO
has the power.)
