Israeli Terrorism and the Framing of Muslims
By Mishaal Al-Kadhi, Special to Arab News

The actions of Mossad, in misdirecting and suborning information, led to it pulling the wool over its allies eyes globally. It also enabled the Jewish state to put suspicion on Arab states with coordinated covert operations that led to some of the Arab and Muslim states being targeted by the United States.

The Israeli and Jewish lobbies, with their control over world media, managed to convince the world that the Muslims and the Arabs were responsible for the crimes that were committed by the Jews.

The incidents below, obtained exclusively from Jewish authors, former Mossad agents, US congressmen, senators and military personnel give us an insight into some of the Jewish crimes for which Arabs got blamed.

Example No. 3:

The year: 1986

Name of operation: Operation Trojan.

What happened?: Israel purposely manufactured false evidence of Arab terrorism tricking the US to go to war against an innocent nation, as related by a former Mossad agent in his book. Details: Israel had steadily learned valuable lessons from it’s previous aborted and failed attempts to frame the Arabs and prod the US to bomb and destroy them. This time they managed to hatch a truly devious scheme that actually succeeded in causing the US to wrongly go to war and militarily attack another nation. The Israeli secret spy agency (Mossad) planted a transmitter in Tripoli, Libya, and then broadcast terrorist messages in Libyan code making Libya responsible for the killing of two Americans in the bombing of the La Belle discothèque in Germany. It was later proven that Libya had nothing to do with the bombing. By use of this fraud, Israel induced the American bombing of Libya, resulting in the death of countless civilians including the adopted infant daughter of it’s president, Moammar Al-Qaddafi.

The manner in which Mossad tricked the US into attacking Libya was described in detail by former Mossad case worker Victor Ostrovsky in “The Other Side of Deception,” the second of two revealing books he wrote after he left Israel’s foreign intelligence service. The story began in February 1986, when Israel sent a team of navy commandos in miniature submarines into Tripoli to land and install a “Trojan,” a six-foot-long communications device, in the top floor of a five-story apartment building. The device, only seven inches in diameter, was capable of receiving messages broadcast by Mossad’s LAP (LohAma Psicologit-psychological warfare or disinformation section) on one frequency and automatically relaying the broadcasts on a different frequency used by the Libyan government.

The commandos activated the Trojan and left it in the care of a lone Mossad agent in Tripoli who had leased the apartment and who had met them at the beach in a rented van. “By the end of March, the Americans were already intercepting messages broadcast by the Trojan,” Ostrovsky writes.

“Using the Trojan, the Mossad tried to make it appear that a long series of terrorist orders were being transmitted to various Libyan embassies around the world,” Ostrovsky continues. As the Mossad had hoped, the transmissions were deciphered by the Americans and construed as ample proof that the Libyans were active sponsors of terrorism. What’s more, the Americans pointed out, Mossad reports confirmed it. “The French and the Spanish, though, were not buying into the new stream of information. To them it seemed suspicious that suddenly, out of the blue, the Libyans, who had been extremely careful in the past, would start advertising their future actions. The French and the Spanish were right. The information was bogus.”

Ostrovsky wrote: “Operation Trojan was one of the Mossad’s greatest successes. It brought about the airstrike on Libya that President Reagan had promised — a strike that had three important consequences. First, it derailed a deal for the release of the American hostages in Lebanon, thus preserving the Hezbollah as the No. 1 enemy in the eyes of the West. Second, it sent a message to the entire Arab world, telling them exactly where the United States stood regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict. Third, it boosted the Mossad’s image, since it was they who, by ingenious sleight of hand, had prodded the United States to [bomb Libya]”

Shortly thereafter a Pan Am Flight 103 from the USA blew up in midair over Lockerbie, Scotland. The “prime suspect” was labeled Libya, resulting in the USA labeling them a terrorist nation, imposing economic sanctions and placing them on their list of nations that “support terrorism”. Ostrovsky mentions in his explosive expose that even this bombing operation had nothing to do with the Libyans but rather could be directly traced back to a very cloak-and-dagger covert relationship between drug-running informants and the CIA. However, that is a story for another day.

Example No. 4

Israeli use of fake passports to implicate Arabs

In an article by former Israeli Mossad officer Victor Ostrovsky titled “Bungled Amman Assassination Plot Exposes Rift Within Israeli Government Over Peace Negotiations” we read:

“On Sept. 19, six members of the Israeli hit squad arrived in Amman and registered at the Amman InterContinental Hotel. Two had come on a flight from New York and registered as Canadian tourists. The others arrived from Europe, three with Canadian passports, one under the assumed name of Guy Erez, and the fourth on a French passport. All four posed as businessmen, and also had fake Egyptian passports in their possession to be left behind in the event of an accident, to point a finger in a different direction.”

Example No. 5

Israeli forgery and use of stolen or forged passports in their terror attacks and assassinations:

In his book “By Way of Deception” Victor Ostrovsky, former Israeli Secret Police (Mossad) officer, wrote about a visit to a factory the Mossad was using for forging currency and passports. “When I visited the factory as a trainee, I saw a large batch of blank Canadian passports. They must have been stolen. It looked like an entire shipment. There were over 1,000 of them. I don’t think the shipment was ever reported missing — not in the media, anyway.”

He continued: These passports “end up in a huge library-like room, containing many thousands of passports, divided by countries, cities and even districts ... many immigrants to Israel are also asked if they will give up their passports to save Jews.” One of these passports was later found left behind by a Mossad agent who had detonated a bomb under the bed of a man in Nicosia, Cyprus. Another was found in 1997 in the possession of a Mossad agent who had bungled an attempt to assassinate a man living in Amman, Jordan. A third, belonging to Patricia Roxborough was found in 1973 being used by female Israeli Mossad agent who mistakenly assassinated the wrong target.

Example No. 6

More fake IDs used by Israeli Mossad agents:

In a news report published on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998 by BBC News we read: “A UK MP has said that four members of the United Nations weapons inspection team in Iraq are Israeli spies. Labour’s George Galloway, who has campaigned against airstrikes on Iraq, named four people he alleged were agents of Mossad, the Israeli secret service, working under false names and papers with the UNSCOM team. ...The clash came in Commons exchanges after the foreign secretary made a statement on the deepening crisis over Iraq’s withdrawal of cooperation with the UN weapons inspectors. ...UNSCOM’s former chief of inspectors, Scott Ritter, has alleged the organization received substantial aid from Mossad. ... The Glasgow Kelvin MP went on: “In the last few hours it has been revealed that four inspectors working in Iraq under pseudonyms and carrying false passports were in fact Col. Khadouri, Lt. Shamani, Col. Rabscon and Jador Dalal Shamoni — all operatives of the Mossad Israeli intelligence.’”

Example No. 7

Israeli control of US foreign policy, media and public opinion:

Paul Findley is a former US Congressman who served for 22 years, with 16 of those years spent on the Committee on Foreign Affairs. In his book “They Dare to Speak Out” he says: “...[Israel] is able to stifle free speech, control our Congress, and even dictate our foreign policy.”

Similarly, Sen. J. William Fulbright is quoted in the same book as saying in 1973: “Israel controls the Senate...around 80 percent are completely in support of Israel; anything Israel wants it gets. Jewish influence in the House of Representatives is even greater.”

Example No. 8

How did Israel achieve this all-pervasive degree of domination of US affairs?:

On 29-May-2000, Insight magazine published an explosive expose titled “FBI Probes Espionage at Clinton White House” by J. Michael Waller and Paul M. Rodriguez. In that most devastating article, we are shown how dozens of FBI counterintelligence agents managed to uncover a massive wire-tapping and electronic eavesdropping scheme by which Israel was able to break into some of the most secure telephone lines in the USA, including the highest levels of the White House, State Department, Justice Department, Pentagon and National Security Council (NSC). It is feared that by way of this spying Israel has managed to not only obtain some of the most sensitive secrets of the US government in it’s highest levels, but may very well have managed to gain control over leading government figures through blackmail. Here are some quotations from that expose:

The FBI is probing an explosive foreign-espionage operation that could dwarf the other spy scandals plaguing the US government. Insight has learned that FBI counterintelligence is tracking a daring operation to spy on high-level US officials by hacking into supposedly secure telephone networks. The espionage was facilitated, federal officials say ... by a Justice Department unwillingness to seek an indictment against a suspect.

The espionage operation may have serious ramifications because the FBI has identified Israel as the culprit. ... More than two dozen US intelligence, counterintelligence, law-enforcement and other officials have told Insight that the FBI believes Israel has intercepted telephone and modem communications on some of the most sensitive lines of the US government on an ongoing basis. The worst penetrations are believed to be in the State Department. But others say the supposedly secure telephone systems in the White House, Defense Department and Justice Department may have been compromised as well.

The problem for FBI agents in the famed Division 5, however, isn’t just what they have uncovered, which is substantial, but what they don’t yet know, according to Insight’s sources interviewed during a yearlong investigation by the magazine. Of special concern is how to confirm and deal with the potentially sweeping espionage penetration of key US government telecommunications systems allowing foreign eavesdropping on calls to and from the White House, the National Security Council, or NSC, the Pentagon and the State Department. ... no government official would speak for the record. ... “It’s a huge security nightmare,” says a senior US official familiar with the super-secret counterintelligence operation. “The implications are severe,” confirms a second with direct knowledge. “We’re not even sure we know the extent of it,” says a third high-ranking intelligence official.

A senior government official who would go no further than to admit awareness of the FBI probe, says: “It is a politically sensitive matter. I can’t comment on it beyond telling you that anything involving Israel on this particular matter is off-limits. It’s that hot.” ... For nearly a year, FBI agents had been tracking an Israeli businessman working for a local phone company. The man’s wife is alleged to be a Mossad officer under diplomatic cover at the Israeli Embassy in Washington....When federal agents made a search of his work area they found a list of the FBI’s most sensitive telephone numbers, including the Bureau’s “black” lines used for wiretapping. Some of the listed numbers were lines that FBI counterintelligence used to keep track of the suspected Israeli spy operation. The hunted were tracking the hunters.

“It was a shock,” says an intelligence professional familiar with the FBI phone list. “It called into question the entire operation. We had been compromised. But for how long?” ...the FBI discovered enough information to make it believe that, somehow, the highest levels of the State Department were compromised, as well as the White House and the NSC. According to Insight’s sources with direct knowledge, other secure government telephone systems and/or phones to which government officials called also appear to have been compromised. ....A local phone manager had become suspicious in late 1996 or early 1997 about activities by a subcontractor working on phone-billing software and hardware designs for the CIA. The subcontractor was employed by an Israeli-based company.

This was not the first time the FBI had been asked to investigate such matters and, though it was politically explosive because it involved Israel, .... “This is always a sensitive issue for the Bureau,” says a former US intelligence officer. “When it has anything to do with Israel, it’s something you just never want to poke your nose into. But this one had too much potential to ignore because it involved a potential systemwide penetration.”

The activities of Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard were uncovered by accident, but there remains puzzlement to this day as to how he was able to ascertain which documents to search, how he did so on so many occasions without detection, or how he ever obtained the security clearances that opened the doors to such secrets. In all, it is suspected, Pollard turned over to his Israeli handlers about 500,000 documents, including photographs, names and locations of overseas agents. “The damage was incredible,” a current US intelligence officer tells Insight. “We’re still recovering from it.”

“[The FBI] uncovered what appears to be a sophisticated means to listen in on conversations from remote telephone sites with ... real-time audio feeds directly to Tel Aviv,” says a US official familiar with the FBI investigation.

Monica Lewinsky told Kenneth Starr, as recounted in his report to Congress, that ... the president told her. “He suspected that a foreign embassy was tapping his telephones, and he proposed cover stories”.

Curiously, Starr never informed Congress whether the Lewinsky tale was true. For that matter, according to Insight’s sources, Starr never bothered to find out from appropriate agencies, such as the FBI or the CIA, whether the monitoring by a foreign government of the president’s conversations with Lewinsky occurred.

... fears were rampant of the damage that could ensue if the American public found out that even the remotest possibility existed that the president’s phone conversations could be monitored and the president subject to foreign blackmail. To the FBI agents involved, that chance seemed less and less remote.

The FBI has become increasingly frustrated by both the pace of its investigation and its failure to gain Justice Department cooperation to seek an indictment ... National security is being invoked to cover an espionage outrage ... Moreover, says a senior US policy official with knowledge of the case: “This is a hugely political issue, not just a law-enforcement matter.”

European opinions on Israel by Aluf Benn
It is difficult to argue with the values that Europe is promoting, like democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights and concern for minorities. The demand that Israel withdraw from the territories and give independence to the Palestinians is also legitimate - as is the clarification that improvement in relations with Israel is conditional upon honoring European values. This arm-twisting has had results, and Israel is more attentive to Europe. The problem is that the Europeans are insisting on insulting Israel even when they are ostensibly supporting it. It is exasperating to hear European foreign ministers talking about "Israel's right to exist" as if it were being put to the test. Who's asking them? Will an Israeli foreign minister ever talk about France or Germany's "right to exist"? Are the Europeans talking like this in Damascus and in Cairo as well? The Europeans' votes in the United Nations are masterpieces of diplomatic cowardice, as is the European support for self-defense against terror while condemning the means Israel has used against it. And let us not forget the contemptible statement about "the way in which the right of return could be realized," which the European Union published in response to U.S. President George W. Bush's letter to Ariel Sharon, which recognized the Jewish settlement blocs in the territories.

Does Europe want a Middle East without wars, like at home? Please. But are Israel's neighbors prepared to accept it as a worthy partner, like Germany or France? Are the regimes and the economies suited to such a connection? And what have the Europeans done to encourage internal change in the Arab states, which are beset by tyranny and poverty?

Now the German foreign minister, Joschka Fischer, one of Israel's most important friends in Europe, is leading a diplomatic campaign against attacking nuclear installations in Iran. Fischer has told Israeli officials that the diplomatic effort against the Iranian bomb is of limited effectiveness but that it is still the only alternative. His warnings were directed against an invasion, as in the Iraq War, and ignored alternatives like focused attacks on weak links that would delay the Iranian project by a number of critical years.

The European dislike of the use of force is not a sanctified value. Inherent in it is the danger of resignation to a determined aggressor like the leadership of Iran. There must be no hasty bombardment of the Iranian installations, but giving up the military stick a priori weakens Fischer's diplomacy, and ultimately it will leave Israel alone facing the Iranian warheads. The main thing is that it will be in accordance with international law and UN resolutions

Scars of massacre still fresh in Hebron
by Khalid Amayreh in Hebron
Sunday 27 February 2 005 10:23 AM GMT

It happened shortly after dawn on 25 Febr uary 1994, when an American Jewish immigrant named Baruch Goldstein left h is home at the settlement of Kiryat Araba (just outside Hebron), carryin g his army-issued Galilion sub-machine gun.

The middle-aged bearded physician settler, dressed in combat camouflage, headed for the Ibrahimi Mosque - known to Jews as the Tomb of the Patriarchs - in the he art of the town's old quarter where hundreds of Arab worshipers were fini shing their morning prayer.

And as soon as the faithful knelt down, Goldstein b egan spraying them with bullets from his automatic weapon. Within three minutes, 29 worshipers were dead and twice as m any were either injured or maimed.

Eventually, survivors overpowered the settler, who was still shooting, and killed him. The Israeli government, then headed by Yitzhak Rabin, sought to avoid responsibil ity for the massacre, saying it was a "thunder on clear day."

Yet, far from punishing the Talmudic settlers who e mbraced Goldstein as hero and great saint, the Israeli army imposed a hermeti c curfew on the estimated 170,000 Palestinian inhabitants of Hebron, wh ich lasted for nearly two months, while giving the settlers free rein to patrol the streets, brandishing their Uzis and M-16s.

No improvement

Not a single settler was arrested, let alone prosec uted, in connection with the carnage. Adding insult to injury, an Israeli inquiry panel ( the Shamgar Commission) practically rewarded the settlers by allocating o ver 65% of the Ibrahimi Mosque's interior space to them, leaving the rema ining 35% for Muslims.

Eleven years on, the situation in Hebron shows no sign of improvement. The estimated 550-600 extremist settlers, including some 200 Yeshiva students studying the Talmud at the hands of hardline rab bis such Dov Lior, still harass Palestinians on a daily basis, often in f ull view of the Israeli army. The settlers, who have erected a memorial plaque in Kiryat Arba in Goldstein's honour, are mostly affiliated with the Kach and K ahana Hay movements, both of which are classified as terrorist groups by the US and Israel itself.

This none-too-subtle Israeli policy of making life unbearable for Palestinians in the old town has resulted in an exodus of Palestinians from the city.

Victims punished

According to Hebron Mayor Mustafa Abdul Nabi Natshi , the Israeli state and its army punished the victims instead of punishing the criminals.

"They confiscated t he bulk of the Ibrahimi Mosque and gave it to the settlers on a silver platte r. They forced thousands of Palestinians to close down their homes and businesses. In short, Israel has been effecting a silent but real ethnic cleansing in our city by expelling tens of thousands of people from their homes, all in order to ensure comfort for these racist thugs," Natshi told Aljazeera.net. He said the occupation army continued to maintain a heavy presence all over Hebron, especially in the old town.

"Today, our people are effectively barred from trav elling or even walking on many streets in and around the old town. Can you imagine any other city in this world where locals are barred from wal king on the streets of their own town?"

Concept stretched

According to the so-called Hebron Protocol, signed between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli government on Benjamin Neta nyahu in 1996, Hebron was divided into two parts: H-1, to be run by the PA, and H-2 (the old town and contiguous neighbourhoods), where the Israeli a rmy was to maintain "security responsibility".

However, the Israeli generals managed to stretch the concept of "security responsibility" to imply absolute sovereignty, including hounding and systematically persecuting the  estimated erstwhile 30,000 Palestinians of the old town.

Today, all but a few thousand Palestinians in the o ld town have been forced to flee to the nominally PA-run parts of Hebron. Indeed, months of uninterrupted hermetic curfews, coupled with daily harassment by heavily armed Jewish settlers, left no choic e for many Palestinians who could afford to rent or buy a home outside the old town.

Access prevented

Hamid Jabari is one of the Palestinians forced relo cate "temporarily" relocate, thanks to Jewish harassment. He told Aljazeera.net that Israeli troops and Jewis h settlers employed "every imaginable diabolical tactic to make our lif e unbearable". Jabari continued: "They did everything you can imag ine, from splashing human urine on our kids while on their way to school t o barring our family members from returning home under the pretext that the area was a closed military zone. "Can you imagine soldiers stationed outside your ow n home for the sole purpose of preventing you from accessing it? This was happening here."

As any visitor to Hebron's old quarter will testify , most of the streets are closed to Palestinian traffic with huge concrete slabs.

Israeli authorities cite the usual security excuse to justify the draconian measures, that is forcing Palestinians to take a circuitous route involving 10 additional kilometres to reach the next street or neighbourhood.
