Peace Tour from June 21st – July 03rd, 2003 through Germany and Switzerland

"Zaman el Salaam – Zman shel Shalom – Time for Peace"

with Israeli and Palestinian musicians and the Peace School Mirja theatre group from Tamera/Portugal with their performance: "We Refuse to be Enemies!"

Press Text:

The peace tour brings people together on stage who would not meet at all under "normal circumstances": Yair Dalal (violin, Oud) and Avi Agababa (Percussion), two well-known Jewish musicians from Israel, who – originating from the Iraq - touch a common root in the Jewish, Arab and Christian Culture; Elias (Piano), Victor (Guitar) and Ranja (Vocals) (for political reasons they don’t want their full names to be published) from the occupied Bethlehem in Palestine; and the Theatre Group of the Peace School Mirja from Tamera/Portugal under the direction of theologian Sabine Lichtenfels, co-founder of Tamera and director of the Institute for Global Peace Work (IGF). They say: "We Refuse to be Enemies. It is Time for Peace. In a time of escalating violence in the Middle East, of terror and counter-terror we want to engage our forces towards a vision of peace that is worth living, for community and solidarity between Palestine and Israel and for the preservation of the planet we all inhabit together."

Through means of music, words and theatre they inform us about the conflict in Israel and Palestine. Also about the peace work done on the Israeli side and – almost unknown in Europe – on the Palestinian side, and show possible perspectives. They are not only together on stage: Since a peace camp in summer 2002 in Tamera/Portugal they work together in a common peace initiative. In December 2002 they met* - almost a miracle under the current political situation – for a peace concert in the peace village Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam in Israel.

*) with the exception of Victor from Bethlehem whose entry into Israel was refused
