Eamonn Dowd has been painting since childhood and has been involved in several exhibitions over the years. Most notably, "Paint and Noise" Nuns Island Arts Centre, Galway 1984, "Western Artists" Galway Arts Festival 1986 and 1987, "Framing Dowd", Ormond Multi-Media Center, Dublin 1995, and "Eamo" at The Front Lounge, Dublin 2000. He had designed record sleeves, and contributed illustrations for the music and fashion magazine D-SIDE.
As a songwriter and performer he scored a Top 30 hit in 1990 with The Swinging Swine and "Them Ghosts do Come", the same song cropping up again in 2001 on the soundtrack of the acclaimed Motion Picture "Flick". In 1992 he wrote the radio hit "Here comes the Captain" for Captain Hex. In 95 he recorded and performed with David Bickleys' band HyperBorea, who went on to win a Hot Press Award.
In 96 he toured the UK with ex-Beautiful South singer Briana Corrigan, and later that year formed The Racketeers, releasing the albums "By Hook or by Crook" (1997) "Long Time Gone" (1999) and the e.p "Counterfeit Christmas" (also ' 99).
He continues to tour and record, playing up to 100 gigs a year. A new record is due later this year (2002).
