20 JANUARY (Saturday Sunday) Hand
Papermaking for beginners (natural fibres and
recycled materials) The 2-day beginners workshop is
designed to introduce participants to hand papermaking
techniques using a combination of recycled materials and
natural fibres of cotton, bamboo, desert grass and abaca.
Incorporating fabrics, threads, dried plants, herbs and
seeds into their pieces made from various pulps, they
will create a variety of papers and unique images. The
workshop also covers paper dyeing- and decorating
techniques. Tutor:

JANUARY (Saturday) Textile Art Workshop
Experimental Textiles
This is a unique, experimental
1-day workshop on textile art - making textile
backgrounds from a variety of materials and making a
small picture piece based on their source. Participants
will learn to use acrylic paint, bondaweb, oil sticks,
paper, gold leaf and stitch to make exciting backgrounds
for their textile pieces. Tutor:

FEBRUARY (Saturday) Printmaking
Techniques 1: Introduction to Drypoint and Carborundum
techniques (using copper and aluminium plates) Drypoint:
manually engraving an image onto the plate using
special tools for marking into metal before inking up and
printing. Carborundum:
a hard, grit-like substance is mixed with adhesive to
form a paste. Various grades of carborundum adhesive
applied to areas on a plate before inking up and

Papermaking FOLLOW-ON COURSE (ADVANCED) This
workshop is a follow-on course; suitable for participants
who wish to learn and experiment more after the beginners
course, or have previous experience and/or practice in
hand papermaking. Its
designed to give an introduction to creating unique plant
papers from various plants and fibres. Also covered:
Batik and other decorative techniques on handmade papers,
textures, papers for printmaking and artworks. Tutor:

FEBRUARY (Sunday) Silk
Papermaking Techniques Participants
will learn how to create beautiful, plain and colourful,
textured, fabric-like papers using a wide
range of various silk fibres - carded fibres from
cocoons, hand dyed silk tops, throwsters waste fibres,
silk threads
etc. The workshop introduces three
silk papermaking methods and decorating techniques. Tutor: Tunde Toth, Fibre Artist

MARCH (Saturday) Batik
Techniques
The generic term 'Batik' a Malay word
refers to the process of dyeing fabric using resist
technique: covering areas of cloth with a dye-resistant
substance to prevent them absorbing colour. Some methods
are over 1,000 years old with evidence in Africa, the
Middle East, Asia and India.
During this 1 day workshop participants will create
individual pieces through an introduction to resist and
fabric dye techniques, using traditional tools.

As well
as learning a traditional skill, participants will be
introduced to basic basketry techniques, creating a
beautiful willow basket or garden structure during the
one-day workshop. A great opportunity to make beautiful

three Friday mornings at KOZO Studio and Gallery with
Jennie Castle Artist, Castlerin Studios,

February Participants
will learn to mosaic a garden pot selecting from a
rainbow-coloured choice of ceramic tiles. They will
be introduced to the skills and techniques of cutting,
breaking, gluing and grouting while creating their
own unique designs. This
course runs over three Friday mornings and includes a
slide show presentation of previous works and projects
undertaken by the artist and other mosaic artists. Fee:
95 including all materials and the use of
tools and equipment. 10%
discount for family members booking in together. Bookings
are confirmed with 40 deposit paid in advance. Places
are limited: workshops and courses are run with a max. of
