 Study suggests life sprang from clay Saturday, October 25, 2003 http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/science/10/25/clay.life.reut/index.html WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Science backed up religion this week in a study that suggests life may have indeed sprung from clay -- just as many faiths teach. A team at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston said they had shown materials in clay were key to some of the initial processes in forming life. Specifically, a clay mixture called montmorillonite not only helps form little bags of fat and liquid but helps cells use genetic material called RNA. That, in turn, is one of the key processes of life. Jack Szostak, Martin Hanczyc and Shelly Fujikawa were building on earlier work that found clays could catalyze the chemical reactions needed to make RNA from building blocks called nucleotides. They found the clay sped along the process by which fatty acids formed little bag-like structures called vesicles. The clay also carried RNA into those vesicles. A cell is, in essence, a complex bag of liquidy compounds. "Thus, we have demonstrated that not only can clay and other mineral surfaces accelerate vesicle assembly, but assuming that the clay ends up inside at least some of the time, this provides a pathway by which RNA could get into vesicles," Szostak said in a statement Thursday. "The formation, growth and division of the earliest cells may have occurred in response to similar interactions with mineral particles and inputs of material and energy," the researchers wrote in their report, published in the journal Science. "We are not claiming that this is how life started," Szostak stressed. "We are saying that we have demonstrated growth and division without any biochemical machinery. Ultimately, if we can demonstrate more natural ways this might have happened, it may begin to give us clues about how life could have actually gotten started on the primitive Earth." Lindner It is the case that most groups of people throughout history have created and believed in a set of myths that portrayed their own culture, religion, and blood-group as superior to all others. These myths justified and motivated wars, exploitation, and even the mass murder of outsiders. We are interested here to investigate the origins of the myth of white supremacy, which, because of the technology white Europeans acquired, has led whites to exploit and murder outsiders all over the planet to an extent never before possible or imagined. The belief system of the Europeans who committed these crimes is quite well-known and easy to access. Their foundational ideas about the Cosmos and human life are found in their Bible. This book is an amalgamation of ancient Judean scriptures (Old Testament) with the Christian scriptures (New Testament). Now, the message of Christ was one of love, forgiveness, and non-violence, but that was only a small and late edition to the Old Testament. Indeed, Christianity accepted the Old Testament as a true representation of God and man, and added Christ and his sacrifice in an attempt to supercede the Old Testament ideas and create an inclusive religion for all mankind. However, the human mind functions hierarchically-meaning that all its ideas stem from foundations, and these foundations determine the superstructure. Later ideas that are incompatible with the foundations are likely to be ignored. Therefore, in spite of Christian theology, the foundation of the Christian religion remained the Old Testament, and Old Testament ideas became more influential in Christianity with the Protestant Reformation and the invention of printing press. (More about these Old Testament ideas later.) In the latter half of the second millennium, white Western Europe achieved a technological and economic supremacy over all other groups on this Earth. They also traveled great distances via land and sea and encountered people in Africa and the Americas who had far less technology and had totally different belief systems. How could these early Europeans explain these differences? They had none of the knowledge we have today about the origins, migrations, and cultural evolution of the human species. They could not have created or grasped the anti-racist thesis published recently in "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond. Diamond integrated a mass of evidence from geology, biology, sociology, linguistics, and other fields to support the theory that what made white Europe able to produce guns, germs, and steel before other peoples was not any genetically determined superior intelligence or curiosity but just the chance event of being in the right time in the right place. His thesis in a nutshell is that Eurasia,(Middle East),developed civilization and technology because it had a tremendous head start over the rest of the globe. Eurasia had far more domesticable plants and animals. These allowed the discovery and expansion of agriculture. Agriculture freed large parts of the population to develop crafts and technology, it also enabled an elite warrior caste to exist and to live off of the excess produced by the farmers. This ruling caste promulgated rules and religions that justified and solidified their control over the masses. They promoted the advance of military technology. They supported priests and academics who in turn supported the ruling caste. Thus were the first civilizations born in Eurasia and the east-west orientation of Eurasia and lack of insurmountable barriers promoted the spread of agricultural techniques, technology, and ideas both east and west. White Europe was simply a relatively late benefactor of ideas and technologies developed centuries earlier in the Middle East, and was ideally situated to continue to develop these ideas and institutions. As I said, Western Europeans could not have grasped the fact that their supremacy in so many fields was due to their good fortune. Now where were they likely to find an explanation for their supremacy? Why in their own holy scriptures, of course! What they found in their Old Testament was not only an explanation for their superiority, but a justification for exploiting and killing the inferior peoples they encountered. The people they encountered were obviously not "Godly", and their backwardness was a sign that they had rejected God and were being punished. What did their Old Testament tell them about how they should interact with these backward unbelievers? The foundation of the Bible, the first five books known as the Torah or Pentateuch, were written long after the supposed events by the Levite priests. Through these books, the priests succeeded in ensuring their power over the remaining Israelites and ensuring the continued existence of the Israelites as a separate people during the diaspora. This Levitical creed informed Europeans, themselves recently elevated from barbarism to civilization, that the different races of Man descended from different persons-and that these races had qualititative differences. Some races were blessed by God and others cursed. After God had wiped out all humans except Noah's family, the sons of Noah repopulated the Earth. Shem and his descendants were blessed by God, but Canaan and his descendents were to be slaves of Shem and Japheth.[1] Therefore, Europeans reasoned that all the primitive peoples were descended from Canaan and they could rightly enslave them. This argument was indeed used to justify African and American slavery. But they found much, much more in the Old Testament! The entire collection of books is essentially the story of how God chose a particular tribe, the Israelites, to be his special people, how he gave them a license to exterminate all other people in the land that he "gave" to them and to enslave or otherwise dominate all people they encountered outside that land.[2] Non-Israelites are described as unclean and as no better than animals[3] and God repeatedly commands them not to intermarry with gentiles. These scriptures promise that one day, the Messiah will come as a conqueror and king and will rule the entire Earth from Jerusalem for the benefit of the Israelites.[4] Can one possibly invent a more dangerous religion with which to infect the minds of a people with military superiority! I can't. Given all this, and given that the white Europeans found themselves in a position of power over all other peoples, it is not surprising that they came to view themselves and the new Israelites, God's new chosen people. They actually theorized that they were the descendants of the tribes of Israel. Regardless of the theological niceties, the fact is that their own holy scriptures were a handbook for racially-justified slavery, exploitation, and extermination of "lesser" peoples. In conclusion: white racism is a derivative of Judaic racism. Today, we are witnessing a tragic alliance of white Christian racism and Jewish racism in a new, unprecedented bid to retake the Holy Land from gentiles and unbelievers and to rule the entire world-following the very plan laid out in the Old Testament scriptures that define these two groups. These racists will either have to be defeated militarily, with the accompanying devastation of much of the globe, or they will have to be convinced of the self-destructive error of their ways by a popular movement. In order for the people of the world to stop them, they must first understand the sources of their own racism. They must remove the beam from their own eye. This is difficult because of their own belief in or at least respect for the Old Testament, the prohibitions surrounding the criticism of any religion, and the especially intense and violently-enforced prohibitions surrounding the criticism of the Jewish religion ("anti-Semitism"). He also said that tension between religion and nationality was a worrying trend, before re-emphasising the importance of ensuring that Muslim imams should speak English. <br> <br> Similarly in the police state of Egypt, the guarantor of western interests Mubarak, has stepped up attempts to silence any Islamic sentiments in the mosques. The Egyptian government is to centrally produce pro-western khutbas (sermons) for the country's 88,000 mosques. Furthermore the government will vet each imam (mosque leader), thereby ensuring that pro-western stooges grace both political and religious establishments in this Muslim country. <br> <br> This is all part of the global campaign to suppress Islam and to force Muslims to alter their pure Islamic thoughts into agreeing with the secular western ideas. The western nations, and their supporters, use threats and intimidation to try and achieve their aims. Yet, the whole reason they are increasing their efforts is because the Muslim Ummah is turning to the pure Islamic thoughts in greater numbers than ever before.
