The Issue at hand... In a November 28, 2005 letter to Dow
AgroSciences, Maureen Serafini, Director, NYS Bureau of
Pesticides, approved sulfuryl fluoride (ProFumeŽ)
fumigant on all processed foods and a large number of raw
food commodities in New York. These are the foods most
Americans eat. In response, FAN’s Pesticide
Project Director, Ellen Connett, requested Director
Serafini to revoke this approval. Because sulfuryl
fluoride breaks down to fluoride in the human body,
fluoride is the endpoint of toxicological concern. In
their approval, EPA approved the highest levels of
fluoride residues in food in US history. Fluoride is
persistent and bio-accumulates in the human body. Inhalation tests with
all animal species exposed to sulfuryl fluoride revealed
severe harm to the brain. Of particular concern was the
finding of holes (vacuolation) in the white matter of the
brain, and an abnormal softening (malacia) and cell death
(necrosis) of brain tissue.

Fluorides have been used to modify behavior and mood of

copy of the letter that the EPA Union, which represents
professionals at the EPA HQ in DC, has sent to their
"boss" Mr. Stephen Johnson on the sulfuryl
fluoride issue.
They are joining FAN, EWG, Beyond Pesticides and the
Organic Consumers Asscoaition in calling for a
"stay" on EPA's approval of sulfuryl fluoride
for use as a fumigant on food.
If you haven't done so already please add your voice in
support of this effort to stop the further contamination

and yet has experienced the same decline in tooth decay as the US; that the scientists
and professionals at EPA's Headquarters Union in Washington DC have recently
called for a "national moratorium" on
fluoridation; and that more than 70 US communities have rejected fluoridation since

Call up your local water utility or your local Department
of Health and ask if your community adds fluoride to the

CAIRO — Instead of listening to increasing international calls to close down the notorious detention camp, the US is opening a new, permanent maximum-security jail in Guantanamo, a leading British daily reported on Sunday, July 30. The two-storey block is being built by a subsidiary of Halliburton, the former employer of now US Vice President Dick Cheney, at a cost of 30 million dollars, according to The Independent. The state-of-the-art maximum-security jail is due to be opened by the end of September and accommodate 200 detainees.
In a major defeat for the administration, the US Supreme Court ruled on Thursday, June 29, that President George Bush overstepped his power in ordering military trials for Guantanamo Bay detainees. The Bush administration has signaled its intention to introduce new legislation that would circumvent the court's ruling.
Almost four years after detaining them in the remote, high-security notorious detention camp, the Pentagon released on Wednesday, April 19, the names and nationalities of 558 Guantanamo detainees. The US had designated the detainees, most of whom were detained in Afghanistan, as "enemy combatants," denying them the rights accorded to prisoners of war under international agreements.
The expansion of Guantanamo is expected to further fuel the controversy about the detention center."This appears to make a mockery of President Bush's statements about the need to close down Guantanamo Bay," said Tim Hancock, Amnesty International's UK campaigns director.A recent report by the UN Human Rights Commission in Geneva pressed for the closure of the detention center, saying acts committed against detainees amount to torture.Amnesty had dismissed Guantanamo as "a symbol of abuse and represents a system of detention that is betraying the best US values and undermines international standards."

The Supreme Court, in its ruling about a Guantanamo detainee last week, was a sharp rebuke to Chenyism (fascism, American style). It dealt with only one case and left the President wiggle room. He could consult with Congress about new legislation that would provide more rights for the detainees in a military trial. But that violates Mr. Cheney's first principle that the commander in chief doesn't have to consult with anyone on matters of national security. If the President was consistent with the Cheney theory and the memos from Alberto Gonzales, first the White House lawyer and now the attorney general, he should defy the Supreme Court and insist that he has the right to establish whatever judicial process he deems proper for these potentially dangerous people without any interference from anyone. He may still do that.
Republicans who will seek re-election in November already suggest that they will run against the Supreme Court decision. The court, they will tell the American people, is soft on terror, just like Democrats in Congress. They could probably get away with this nonsense because fear will cause the voters to forget that this is the Republican court that gave Mr. Bush the Presidency.
Mr. Cheney is a vile, indeed evil, influence in American political life. He is a very dangerous person who would if he could destroy American freedom about which he and his mentor prate hypocritically. His long years in Washington have caused him to lose faith in the legislative and judicial processes of the government. The country, he believes, requires a much stronger executive. Such concentrated power would have been necessary even if the Sept. 11 attacks had not occurred. Mr. Cheney uses the fear of terrorists as a pretext to advance his agenda of an all powerful president, a military dictator.
So long, of course, as he is a Republican.

Normally, watching CSPAN you will often come across tidbits of good information. Through their search engines, it is possible to review the hearings especially those programs involving hearings conducted by the United States Congress. On July 5, 2006, a hearing at the border guard station in San Diego, California caught my attention. Several prominent Republicans and Democrats were on the panel concerning Border Vulnerability. They were interview panels of selected individuals including a panel of county Sheriffs who are responsible for controlling aliens once they cross the border.
On July 5, 2006 the following exchange took place between U.S. Representative William Bilbray and William Kolender, Sheriff of San Diego County. This is an 11-second transcript of that hearing including the time markers.:
2:55:56 - Rep. Bilbray: "Do you want to break the news about three law enforcement officers concerning an incident that took place about two miles from this location in the last couple of weeks?
2:56:02 Sheriff Kolender: "They were killed."
2:56:04 Rep. Bilbray: "They were not only killed, they were decapitated (Beheaded) weren't they?
2:56:07 Sheriff Kolender: "Yes!"
Within this same time period, Private Tucker a Marine from Madras, Oregon is tortured and beheaded in Iraq. He received International press and was laid to rest in Central Oregon.
In the
meantime the main stream media failed to report the
beheading of three law enforcement officers. Where is the
outrage by the Senators Boxer, Reid, McCain, Feingold,
and Kennedy. Why the silence? Why the cover-up? To make
matters worse the video recording of the hearing was
buried by CSPAN. No press, and the President said
nothing. It is easier to secure a video of Private
Tuckers ordeal than find the video regarding the
beheading of deputies in San Diego county. Fortunately
the clip can be viewed at www.plantek.us.
Incidents of suicide among U.S. troops in Iraq is also reaching troubling levels. There are also reports of defections by U.S. troops to neighboring Turkey, Iran, and Syria, where they can get passage to Europe and Russia.
Incidents of fighting between regular U.S. military personnel and private military contractors, who wear uniforms similar to those worn by regular U.S. soldiers and Marines, is also increasing. U.S. troops are frustrated that they come under attack for atrocities carried out by private contractors who receive triple and quadruple the salaries U.S. military personnel receive. This situation has created a tinderbox between U.S. troops and private contractors.
